Connected under the Same Sky

Why

Two days after reading a hard headline about a plane that fell out of the sky, I found myself revisiting the news story again and again. I didn't want to just move on and do the day-to-day until the next hard headline came around to distract me from the last one. I realized I needed to cry and wanted to somehow emotionally connect with the people who had suffered and died, but I didn't know how. I decided to write a song describing what happened so that I would have something to listen to - and cry with - whenever I needed to revisit those feelings. This helped.

This is a work of love but if you would like to donate to help support the work, here is donation information:

What this is not

I realized that night that we get lots of support in coping with some types of loss through millions of songs and movies about unrequited love. But in the close aftermath of collective tragedies, we usually just read what happened, comment on social media, and move on as the headline fades.

But months after we lose someone dear to all of us, or are hit with the shock of yet another tragedy, that ache sometimes finds its way back to the front of our minds and hearts, and it's lonely.

My intention is to be a companion in grief, to create a space that supports connection to others and to what has been lost. If you've been hit with a hard headline and need an unhurried space to sit with it, please request a session.

Your support

I am not a licensed therapist or a crisis helpline, and what I provide is not a comprehensive solution to navigating grief or any of the attendant emotions and challenges that come with it. This is also not a space to explore political opinions or possible solutions to tragedies that occur. Any support I provide is based only on my own personal experiences and things I've learned as I've tried to navigate grief in my own life.
